Qatar Central Bank enables HIMYAN cash withdrawals via Apple Pay

The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has unveiled a new digital service enabling customers to withdraw cash from ATMs using the national card HIMYAN through Apple Pay, marking a significant step in the country’s financial technology transformation.

The initiative, announced under the framework of the Third Financial Sector Strategy, reflects QCB’s ongoing efforts to modernize payment systems and strengthen digital services across Qatar. By integrating tokenization technology, customers can now perform cash withdrawals and balance inquiries without presenting a physical card, provided the ATM supports the feature. This applies to machines operated by both issuing banks and other institutions nationwide.

Officials emphasized that the service enhances security and convenience, reducing reliance on physical cards while ensuring faster and safer transactions. Tokenization replaces sensitive card details with digital identifiers, minimizing risks of fraud and misuse. The move also aligns with Qatar’s broader push toward digital transformation in the payments sector, supporting innovation and customer‑centric solutions.

The QCB highlighted that the HIMYAN card, introduced as part of the national payments infrastructure, is designed to provide seamless integration with modern platforms such as Apple Pay. The new withdrawal feature complements existing digital payment options, offering users greater flexibility in managing their finances.

Industry observers noted that the rollout positions Qatar among the first in the region to enable tokenized ATM withdrawals, reinforcing its role as a leader in financial technology adoption. The service is expected to encourage wider use of HIMYAN, while promoting trust in digital banking solutions.

QCB reiterated its commitment to advancing secure, efficient, and innovative payment systems, underscoring that the initiative is part of a long‑term strategy to strengthen Qatar’s financial ecosystem and support the country’s economic development goals.
